spring chickies

We got 10 chicks over spring break this year & the Chases came over to meet them! They are so sweet, soft & tiny. Doesn't take long for them to get feathery & awkward, so I took the time to take photos while they were still downy & little.

work party

On Saturday, July 21st, our Bible Study group did a yard work party at our house!

Here is a before shot of the area that needed to be weeded & covered in bark chips.  We also extended the chicken fence here.

Another project was to weed & clear our this path to the back side of the shed...

...and to clear our behind the shed, where a compost pile has been buried by blackberry bushes.

 Looks fun, huh?

 Getting started.

Frank took out the blackberry bushes with the weed whacker!

Leveling out the ground behind the shed.

Digging holes for the new fence posts.

Bark chips have been laid & fence posts are set.

Bark chips cover the path to the compost area.

 New pallet compost bins.

So much room, when it's not covered in weeds!

Looking good!  Kenton finished up the fence (mostly) in the next week!

Celebrating a long day of hard work with smores in the fire bowl!

I got the extra huge marshmallows....definitely overkill.  I will be buying the regular sized ones from now on!  :P

Huge thanks to our friends for helping make our yard look so lovely!  :)  Like I said, we've got great friends!

morning with prescott

We had the neighbor boy, Prescott over for a few hours one morning, while his parents went to an appointment. Prescott loves our chickens, so the boys spent a lot of time checking on them. :)

Cute two-year-olds in a cage. :) Prescott is just 7 months older than Cedar. They are already such good buddies, I can't wait to see how their friendship grows as the years go by...

snow day

Yay for snow days! Gotta love a city that shuts down for an inch of snow. At least I do! :)

On February 24th, we all got to stay home & play in the snow...that melted completely by the afternoon.

We actually got more snow that night (about an inch) at our house & were surprised when school was not canceled on Friday. Apparently, the area of town we live in was pretty much the only area that got more snow (other than areas in higher elevation).

The boys enjoyed the snow for longer than I expected. It probably helped that we did a dry glove switch part-way through their time outside.

The chickens took their time coming out of the coop. They ended up playing in the snow too, but they weren't too sure of it at first.

Snow man time!

Hmmm...

Cedar took a break & leaned against the snowman (in progress) for long enough for me to get several photos of him. I think he liked the attention. :)

Finley & the final product. Nice work, boys!

snow!

We were spoiled the week before Thanksgiving with a small dusting of SNOW! So cool! Only way it would have been cooler is if we were in school & could've had a snow day. Oh well, we'll take it!

Happy kids! This was before Cedar's gloves came off & he quickly became very unhappy. But a little hot cocoa did the trick! ;)

Happy chickens...

...I think. Hard to tell with chickens.
