finding our christmas tree

In retrospect, we wish we would've picked out a tree last Saturday, when it was sunny & somewhat warm.

Instead, we had planned to go today to find a tree.  After 7 inches of snow & below freezing temperatures, we almost chickened out.

We started driving down River Road to look for a tree lot.  We stopped at one, but weren't happy with the prices/selection.

So we kept driving, thinking we'd find another lot.  We were also trying to remember if there was a tree farm up by the farms we usually visit in the Summer & Autumn.

Our memories served us well, this time!  We found Campbell's Tree Farm right across the street from Lone Pine Farms.

It was much busier than we expected, but we found several good choices.

We settled on this Noble Fir!  It was Kenton's favorite & I was having too hard of a time choosing. ;)

 I think it's perfect!

Elsa actually fell asleep in her warm bundle!

What a perfect scene!  It was so beautiful out there.

 Silly faces!

Even better, Kenton didn't have to kneel down in the snow to cut it down himself.  They cut it for us!

 My sweet family.

Shortly after this photo, Cedar started to notice how cold he was & ended up crying the whole way back to the car.  :(

Kenton was cold too, but he didn't cry.  ;)

I took the kids back to the van & blasted the heat, while Kenton paid for the tree.  Off came Cedar's shoes, socks, gloves & pants, since they were all soaked & frozen!  I pulled out chunks of snow from the cuffs of his jeans.  He was worried that his hands would never warm up!  It was quite dramatic & sad, but the heat worked quickly!  He warmed right up & returned to his happy, sweet self.

snow day #2

The sun came out today, but the temperatures stayed below freezing!  The snow is supposed to stick around for a couple more days, even!  I took the opportunity to take photos around the yard.  I love how everything looks, covered in snow.  :)

snow day #1

 December 6th
{from my camera}

 Catching snow flakes.

Frowning?!

We thought the first couple of inches were exciting!  Little did we know, we'd be getting about 5 more inches over the course of the day!

I thought they might like to make snow bricks.

They made a few, but the snow wasn't packing very easily.

 About 7 inches!  Amazing!

Outi felt right at home, having a snow day birthday.  We had planned to eat dinner at PF Chang's to celebrate, but we called ahead to make sure they were open & they surprised us by saying they were closing due to the weather.  So, we enjoyed frozen pizzas instead.  ;)

I baked a white cake for Outi & we celebrated at their house.

Opening a photo calendar from us.

We had such a fun day.  I actually fell asleep on the couch at about 9:15...about 10 minutes after turning on a show to watch with Kenton.  I usually can last longer than that.  ;)  I was worn out!

snow day from my phone

On Friday, December 6th, we woke up to snow after hearing that there was a 100% chance of snow!  That never happens.  As much as I didn't want to get my hopes up, I was totally hoping for a snow day!  This was supposed to be my first day back to work, after taking my three-month maternity leave.

The boys went outside right away to play in the snow.

Sweet boys.

Elsa didn't seem very impressed with the snow, but she was interested.  ;)

We woke up to 3 & 1/2 inches, but ended the day with about 7 inches!  We were so amazed that it snowed constantly until the evening!  What a treat.  :)

Staying cozy & learning how to play with the toys on her play gym!

All bundled up for a walk to Mummi & Pappa's house!  It's so great that they live just a few blocks away now!  They used to live on a hill & we couldn't get to their house on snow days.

Riding in style!

Lucky boy.

Hard to see with the snow blowing in our eyes.

All lit up & bright outside, even though it was after dark.

griffin's minecraft & blacklight hockey birthday party :)

On Saturday, November 30th, we celebrated Griffin's 7th birthday!

His parents did an awesome job pulling off a Minecraft & blacklight hockey party!

 Lucky kids!

There was a bounce castle too!

 Explaining the first party game!

Finn was getting into it!  ;)

Finn wore a white shirt & grey hoodie & both glowed really well in the black lights.  Fun!

 Time for dessert!

 The Ruddick family.

 Blowing out the candles!

 Sporting a Minecraft shirt & a smile.  :)

Cedar wore a Minecraft shirt too & was sporting some neon face paint for the black lights.

 Opening a gift from us.

Finn got in on the photo.  :P

Oh, Elsa was there too!  :)
